KerryPhillips: Art Funding Matters!

Artist Statement: or What makes Kerry tick?

Phillips work explores emotion through connecting simple, natural subject matter to our human experience of impressionism with the shot being “made in camera” with vintage lenses of many varieties. Some of his favorites being 1950’s and 60’s vintage nikkor. Phillips’s technical expertise has evolved immensely throughout the years working with award winning film directors of photography in his lengthy film career, learning to combine time, movement and composition at the right intuitive moment.

Phillips's exploration is less about an actual place, and more about timeless, captivating; visual poetry -‐ the viewer is drawn to deliberate, unstructured rhythm, glowing natural light and obvious disdain for computer alteration. Technical mastery with more loose and lyrical allure, allows us to experience the sublime photographic impressionism.

The lingering beauty of his disciplines consistently resonates a particular reverence, a relationship, and a compelling arrangement – throughout all his bodies of work.

The sequence portfolio studies organized symmetry with a static narrative – our appreciation of man-‐made progress is given rhythmical ardor. Photographs are not as much about our relationship to time and space, as they are about ratios of time and movement. Phillips takes advantage of the coordinated humanity and nature to maintain vertical prescience with minimal tonal range on many of his specific galleries.

Natural Meditative exploration into meaning that is entirely impassioned; Mother nature is not just out there to be bracketed off, captured and used up. There is an intuitive movement through time – fleeting, and then stopped with mindful intention that it is heightening the viewer’s connection to our environment with Phillip’s concerted effort on "situational observationalism". ©kerryphillips Compositional elements sit in quiet equilibrium composed of textural layers of light, luminance and consideration to all intended nuances. Phillips's works of imagery has an experience of purity and instinctive appreciation of power, humour and transformation – To freeze a transitory moment of life, luminance, and energy- that would never be captured the same again.
